Project 2: Contextual Fit
Architectural Design II- ARC 257
In this project, I was tasked to design an addition to the Smith House that was built in 1965 by the architect Richard Meier. The new design must respect the original architecture by analyzing and incorporating its existing systems and patterns. We were also asked to develop a concept that corresponds to the homeowners' current needs, while introducing new elements or systems not found in the original house.
Narrative
The Smith family enjoys having a great time together while looking at the stars at night with their telescopes, but as of now, Mr. and Mrs. Smith uses different rooms as their kids on their own. In order to fix this, they have decided to add onto their unique home. They are interested in expanding their master bedroom so they can look up to the sky and see the stars, moon and beyond so they don't have to worry and go elsewhere. Mr. Smith has been interested in having a workout room without having to go so far, but as for Mrs. Smith, she also wants to extend the family room and have more outdoor space for her family to enjoy the outdoors.
